Better lighting improves performance – If you work in space with insufficient lighting or lighting that is too harsh, it can cause eyestrain and headaches. This is particularly a problem with older fluorescent lighting. Retrofitting your workspace with LED lighting gives you more light with less energy output. Also removing walls to create a more open concept workplace will improve the flow of natural light.

Storage solutions make you more efficient – Are there areas in your business that are overly cluttered because you don’t have proper storage space to keep your files, equipment and inventory? Installing new shelving or cabinets is a simple solution. Not only does it help make everything easier to find but there is also a calming effect on your staff when things are organized.

Use colour wisely – Before you throw any old paint colour up on the wall, consider the effect that you want that colour to have. Different colours impact our moods and emotions differently. If you work in a high stress industry for example, you might want to consider using blues or greens which have been shown to reduce anxiety. Choose ergonomic workstations – While it can be fun to have trendy office furniture, it is better to have ergonomic furniture. This will help reduce the chances of employees having to take time off because of repetitive stress injuries.

Open space for collaboration – While there is certainly a time and a place for cubicles, sometimes open spaces are more appropriate. Especially in a creative environment, having more open spaces better allows your team to collaborate and brainstorm.
